Pet Insurance

Each year 1 in 3 pets is injured or becomes ill* and needs urgent veterinary treatment.  Insurance can help you cover the cost of these unexpected bills leaving you free to concentrate on helping an important member of your family recover.

At Burnham House Vets we strongly recommend pet insurance to ensure that your pet will receive the very best treatment at the most unfortunate of times! Often owners are shocked at the cost of emergency treatments and surgeries, and on the rare occasion we have to refer a pet to a specialist the fees can be in the thousands!

We have produced the following guide to help you navigate insurance policies and make sure you get value for money from your policy should the worst happen:

If you do need to make an insurance claim, please bring your form in to our reception, making sure you have completed any 'owner' sections, signed it and filled in the policy number. Our receptionist will log that we have received your form and it will be passed to our administrative department for processing. Our admin staff complete the details, attach the animals clinical history and pass the claims to our vets for signing, before we log what has been completed and sent directly to your insurers.

We aim to complete and post your insurance claim within 7-10 days of receiving your form, but please be aware that during busier periods or staff holidays processing time may be slightly longer. Unlike many practices, we do not make a charge for completing insurance paperwork on behalf of our clients.

Upon receiving your claim, your insurance company should process it and make payment to you, or to the practice in the case of a direct claim. (NB: All direct claims must be agreed with the practice prior to submission).  Insurance companies differ, but most tend to make payment within 4-6 weeks of receiving the claim.

  • Vetsure for tailored cover: Pick and choose from a range of benefits and benefit levels to suit your budget. To further adjust your monthly premium, you can choose from a range of excess levels (£69, £109 or £149).

  • Vetsure cover for life: If your pet develops an ongoing condition like arthritis or diabetes, the vet treatment benefits offered will recharge every year for each condition**. Vetsure also only charge the excess once per unrelated condition – many insurers charge the excess every year – which can soon make costs add up.
