Welcome to the latest addition to the BHVS team - Frances!

Have you had the pleasure of meeting our newest recruit?

We have welcomed Frances Bell as a new permanent member of our nursing team this week and we're very excited to introduce her to you!

Fran qualified as a veterinary nurse in Perth, Western Australia and is currently in the process of registering with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in the UK. Fran has special interests in wildlife, exotics, behaviour, nutrition and emergency and critical care.

Prior to joining the BHVS team, Fran has done a huge amount of wildlife work in South Africa, mostly with rehabilitation and release centres plus a 6 month period at a small private zoo near Jo'burg. Fran has worked with endangered African penguins in general rehabilitation and release as well as specialised chick rearing. She has a very soft spot for birds and bats although she admits she "tends to fall in love with whichever species" she's working with at the time (take note pets of East Kent!).

Having travelled all the way from western Australia to be here, Fran is now looking forward to settling in the UK where she has residency, registering with the RCVS and working towards a City & Guilds qualification in nursing exotic species. Fran is a member of the International Rehabilitation Council and several Australian wildlife organisations. In the UK she is hoping to continue her work with bats via volunteering with the Bat Conservation Trust.

Fran says that throughout her travels she has " become aware that we as a species need to be more compassionate towards and speak up more, for the non-humans with whom we share the planet" - a wonderful sentiment which we very much echo at BHVS.

Welcome Fran! :)
